This pattern was designed by Helen Fraser in collaboration with the Australian South Sea Islander Port Jackson Board Members and Tweed Heads Elders. It depicts a conch shell with it's tip pointing to the right, towards the pacific from Australia. Traditionally the conch shell is blown to call the community together. the additional stitch lines represent trade routes between the pacific islands and the NSW and Queensland coast where blackbirding took place during 1847 - 1908.
