#UDHR QUILT PROJECT

In 2016 Tal Fitzpatrick (Australia) and Stephanie Dunlap (USA) invited artists from around the world to embroider the 30 articles of the United Declaration of Human Rights.  I chose Article 4: Ban on Slavery.  My research into Australia's Slave Trade history of Blackbirding has been life changing.  It led to the development of my collaboration with the descendants of slavery, the Australian South Sea Islanders.  My quilt block was stitched into the Red Quilt which was exhibited at the Museum of Australian Democracy, Old Parliament House, Canberra in 2019-20.  It is now part of the Museum of Australian Democracy Collection.  My quilt block was projected onto the front of Old Parliament House during the Enlighten Canberra Festival in 2019.
