This is one of five hand designed, hand pieced and hand quilted art quilts recently on exhibition at the Hume Global Learning Centre Gallery in Sunbury 19 Feb - 27 Mar, 2020. This particular quilt was the third quilt in the series and I particularly love the contrasting colours. It is made from vintage and new cotton fabric, cotton thread, cotton batting, acryllic paint, fabric medium and is backed with a hand painted fabric. The quilting stitches create a subtle pattern on the back that can be viewed when up close to the work. It was inspired by my series of drawings created in response to seeing the expansive Jefferson Grid landscape in the mid-west USA from a plane window. I was feeling sad at the time and reflecting on my mid-life transition, getting older and letting go of aspects of myself, people and ways of thinking. I had the strong sense that beyond this sadness lies something rich and joyful and I was right!
The dimensions of this work are 120 cm x 80 cm.
